Question:
Hello
At my Dads house the electrician has a electrical box hanging in the wall behind the "flush mount" tv bracket. We did not know it was there until we took the bracket off. The bracket is mounted on a stud on the left and a stud on the right and is about 25 inches in height. It is about 4 inches deep so when you take it completely off you have a nice 16x25 inch hole in the wall and the box is then easily accessible. Please let me know if this is safe and up to code.
Thanks
Best Regards,
Jon Huggins

Answer:
Hey Jon thanks for your question. Boxes must be accessible without removing any part of the building or structure as stated in 314.29. The term accessible is also defined in Article 100. It is a judgment call whether your installation is acceptable, especially without seeing it, but it is common to have boxes located behind panels that are removable. I would consider the bracket to be supported from the building in your example.
