Question:
Does the NEC have a requirement for oxidation inhibitors for connections involving aluminum conductors?
Alan Hunt
A
Answer:
Hi Alan, thanks for the question. The NEC does not provide a general requirement for using an oxide inhibitor for terminations of aluminum conductors. Section 110.14 does indicate that where employed at connections, fluxes, inhibitors, and other compounds must be suitable for that use and shall be of a type that will not adversely affect the installation or equipment. Unless the manufacturer requires this in any installation instructions as provided in Section 110.3(B), the Code generally does not.
