Question:
Hi Charlie, Plugs in crawl spaces for houses need to be GFCI type. What about crawl spaces in commercial buildings? Do those plugs need to be GFCI types?
Joe
A
Answer:
Hey Joe thanks for your question. Some GFCI rules for receptacles are in 210.8. Receptacles in dwelling unit crawl spaces must have GFCI protection as stated in 210.8(A)(4). A similar GFCI requirement for receptacles in crawl spaces at Other Than Dwelling Units in 210.8(B) does not exist so the answer is no.
I think a proposed change to the 2017 NEC was submitted about this issue, so stay tuned to see what happens.
