Question:
What type of wiring installation if location is wet? And does PEC recommend this type of installation?
Cris Dilidili
A
Answer:
Hey Cris thanks for your question. Locations such as Damp, Dry, and Wet are defined in Article 100 and although it might appear very simple sometimes judgment is necessary. Review the .10 and .12 sections of the Article for the wiring method you plan to use to make sure is suitable for a wet location. For example armored cable and nonmetallic sheathed cable are not allowed in wet locations as stated in 320.12(2) and 334.12(B)(4) respectively.
The interiors of raceways installed in wet locations are considered to be a wet location as stated in 300.5(B) and 300.9 and the conductors must be suitable for a wet location as stated in 310.10(C). Sections 300.6, 312.2, and 314.15 also have rules that are applicable to wet locations. You will need to check with PEC to see if they have any recommendations.
