Question:
Charlie,
In the 2014 NEC, Section 314.16(B)(2), there is some new highlighted text that hopefully you could explain as to what exactly is being referred. More specifically, what is the “clamp assembly that incorporates a cable termination for the cable conductors”?
What does it mean by conductors that originate within the clamp assembly?
Why is it such a big deal that a whole paragraph was added to this section?
Myself and some other instructors at our JATC, are having trouble understanding this new highlighted text.
Thanks for all your help, Sal Genovesi
A
Answer:
Hey Sal thanks for your question. This new rule is for a specialized product that combines the features of a nonmetallic sheathed cable clamp and a termination device. The cable is striped and inserted into the fitting external to the box. Conductors that originate in the fitting are used to make the connections to the devices or equipment in the box. The assembly must be listed and marked for use with the nonmetallic box.
