Question:
I enjoy your forum. We have not adopted 2017 NEC yet, so I am looking for a 2014 response. Is AFCI protection required on 15 and 20A 120VAC branch circuits as listed in 210.12(A), in a hotel room that has permanent cooking facilities?
Thank you. Keep up the good work.

Answer:
Hey Dale thanks for your question and the compliment. AFCI's are now required in guest rooms and guest suites as stated in 210.12(C) of the 2017 NEC. If the 2014 NEC is applicable then AFCI protection for outlets and devices is only required if the guest room or guest suite meets the definition of a dwelling unit as defined in Article 100.
