Question:
Are “all” countertops required to have GFCI protection?
Joe F
A
Answer:
Hey Joe thanks for your question. Single phase receptacles rated 15 and 20 amperes at 125 volts installed to serve countertops in dwelling unit kitchens must have GFCI protection as stated in 210.8(A)(6). Other countertop receptacles would only need GFCI protection if required by another rule such as receptacles within 6 ft of the top inside edge of a sink bowl as stated in 210.(A)(7). In other than dwelling units 210.8(B) applies.
