Question:
Hello CQD, does a 50A breaker on a 208 Volt system installed in a Wiremold® Circuit Breaker Housing, require 36” X 30” of clearance in front of it? Regards, Raja Permandani
A
Answer:
Hello Raja, thanks for the question. Section 110.26(A) requires adequate working space for electrical equipment operating at 1000V or less to ground, and likely to require servicing, examination, or adjustment while energized, shall require working space depth as defined in Table 110.26(A)(1), and width in compliance with Section 110.26(A)(2). An Overcurrent Protection Device (OCPD) like a 50A breaker is considered equipment that is likely to require servicing while energized, so therefore the appropriate working space depth and width would be required. Assuming that the installation is for a 120/208V system, the breaker housing is less than 30” wide, and Condition 1 of the Table 110.26(A)(1) can be used, the minimum Working Space would be a Width of 30” and a Depth of 36”.
