Question:
Can a GFCI receptacle get installed in a basement ceiling for a hot water heater and softener or is there a maximum height that it needs to be at or below?
Ryan Ritacca
A
Answer:
Hey Ryan thanks for your question. GFCI's used as part of branch circuits must be readily accessible as stated in 210.8. The definition of Accessible, Readily in Article precludes the need to use portable ladders and so forth to meet the conditions of the definition. Although not specifically referenced for GFCI receptacles, the wording of maximum height of 6 ft 7 inches in 404.8(A), can be used to give some guidance.
