Question:
Is it allowable to run a power cord through cord covers that stick to the wall? I currently have a singular long power cord running from an outlet, up the wall, on the ceiling running to a projector along with an HDMI cable. I'm wondering if this is up to code or able to fixed in anyway shape or form

Answer:
Hey Michael thanks for your question. Flexible cords are not allowed to be used as a substitute for the fixed wiring as stated in 400.12(1) or be attached to building surfaces as stated in 400.12(4). Cord covers are frequently used without a problem and essentially support the flexible cord without actually attaching the cord to the building surface. They also are probably installed after the AHJ's inspection. It seems that the length you are describing would be considered using flexible cord instead of fixed wiring. Usually a receptacle is mounted in a ceiling outlet box next to the projector and the projector power supply cord is plugged into that.
