Question:
Part IV of art 680 is Spas and Hot Tubs
680.40 states that part I and Part IV are applicable
680.42 Outdoor Installations states that Part I & II are applicable
680.42 (C) states that romex is allowed in the interior of a one-family dwelling
The question is—when installing a FEEDER, putting a panel outside with the GFCI overcurrent device in it, is 680.25 (A) applicable?
Thanks for all your effort, Thomas J Couch
A
Answer:
Hey Thomas thanks for your question. Yes, for an outdoor spa or hot tub 680.25(A) and (B) are applicable as stated in the reference to Article 680 Part II in 680.42. The wiring methods to be used are in 680.25(A) and they must contain an insulated equipment grounding conductor as stated in 680.25(B). Chapter 3 wiring methods, such as NM cable, are allowed as interior wiring under the conditions stated in 680.42(C).
If you have an early printing of the 2014 NEC, the exception to 680.25(A) was removed by Errata 70-14-2 which is available at:
