Question:
Good morning,
My question of the day is, are there any special requirements for electrical outlets (lights, receptacles) located in the floodplain?
Brett
A
Answer:
Hey Brett thanks for your question. Flood plain not defined in the NEC but Article 682 applies to natural and artificial bodies of water. An electrical Datum Plane is defined in 382.2 and in several cases extends 2 ft above a high water mark or level. Equipment installed in or below the electrical datum plan must be suitable for submersion as covered in specific sections of Article 682. Other Articles might also apply depending on the circumstances such as 553 for floating buildings and 555 for Marinas and Boatyards.
