Question:
Hello Friends.
My question concerns fire sprinkler piping. I have a large run of electrical conduit supported by a strut rack; it's a big pipe because I made it large enough for future expansion. Well, the plumbers came along and hung their 4” diameter fire sprinkler piping from it. I believe this to be a Code violation, but before I blow my stack I wanted to ask you for the exact NEC reference.

Answer:
Hi Paul.
Thanks for the question. I don’t believe the NEC covers this problem. There doesn’t appear to be a safety problem with the two systems supported from the same hanger if of sufficient strength to handle the weight. This seems more of a project coordination problem and is between you, the specifications, the owner, the general contractor, and the sprinkler contractor.
