Question:
Can the single mc cable be grouped together (large circle), and strapped with a single bat wing. Fixture may be moved at a later date farther away.
Todd Brooks
A
Answer:
Hey Todd thanks for your question. Metal Clad Cable, Type MC with 4 or less conductors sized 10 AWG or smaller must be generally secured within 12 inches of its termination as stated in 330.30(B). MC cable must generally be supported every 6 ft. as stated in in 330.30(C) and unsupported permissions are in 330.30(D). Notice the distinction between the words "securing" and "supporting". Most AHJ's accept 6 ft. lengths from a cable support point to a luminaire or other equipment without requiring the cable to be secured within 12 inches of the cable termination using 330.30(D)(2) - even though it does not specifically address the securing rule in 330.30(B), but it will in the 2017 NEC. So back to your question, a loop (large circle) is not specifically addressed and it will be the AHJ's decision to determine if it meets the rules in 330.30. A few loops maybe, many loops probably not.
