Question:
Good day to all
According to Article 100 “Readily Accessible” to me means that I shouldn’t require tools to get at a piece of electrical equipment. So my question is would you agree or disagree that a receptacle placed behind a washing machine for a cord plug in is in violation of this section or am I missing something
Steve Bruns
A
Answer:
Hey Steve thanks for your question. You are correct if it is necessary to use tools, climb over or remove obstacles then the definition of Readily Accessible is not met. But definitions are not requirements nor do they contain requirements - that receptacle is not required to be readily accessible. If it is an AFCI or GFCI type, they must be readily accessible as stated in 210.12 and 210.8.
