Question:
Hello,
I have an outside panel box with UF cable coming down the outside wall in a 2-inch PVC pipe for an 8 ft length into the side of the panel. Can that be like that are do I run stranded wire THHN is that considered okay or does it have to secure to the panel?

A
Answer:
Hello Chambers Electric,
We are responding based on the information in the question. Often Schedule 80 PVC is used as a sleeve for protecting cables, such as UF cable, from physical damage. If this is the use you are describing, then connecting the PVC would not be required. The cable must be connected to the outdoor panelboard using suitable connectors. You also have the option to transition from UF cable to pipe and wire and connect the PVC to the panelboard enclosure. This one may be worth having the AHJ provide input on.
