Question:
Re: CQD answer published Thursday, May 26, 2016 - Gutter and Wireway Adjustment Factor
Good Day! I'm a daily consumer of "Code Question of the Day". Thanks for carrying on the legacy that Charlie started. In Section 366.23 (A) Sheet Metallic Auxiliary Gutters, we get a 30 conductor allowance before applying the adjustment factors of 310.15(B)(3), but in 366.23 (B) Nonmetallic Auxiliary Gutters, no such allowance appears. Is there a good reason for this? Thanks! Toby Petrie
A
Answer:
Hey Toby thanks for your question and the kind words. A similar difference is also in 376.22(B) but there is no 378.22(B) for nonmetallic wireways. I believe the reason is that the metal will more effectively transfer heat from the conductor to the ambient.
