Greetings CQD,

Thanks for this service. Can the appliance end of the 12-2 nonmetallic sheathed cable fed from a separate 20-amp circuit be hard (directly) wired to a 20-amp female attachment plug or does the appliance require a single gang box and grounded outlet?

Answer:

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the question. The wiring method, in this case is nonmetallic sheathed cable, should enter and outlet box where a receptacle can be installed for the appliance to plug into. If the appliance is marked to indicate that it can be directly wired to the wiring method, then the nonmetallic sheathed cable can be connected directly to the appliance, such as is allowed for many dishwasher appliances. Always follow the manufacturer's installation instructions in accordance with Section 110.3(B).
