Question:
Hello and hope everyone is doing well during this COVID-19 pandemic. I recently installed an underground circuit in my front yard and used schedule 40 PVC sprinkler pipe. The inspector turn the installation down saying that I cant use sprinkler pipe for electrical wiring. Is there a Code rule that prohibits this? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bruce Compton

Answer:
Hi Bruce,
Thanks for the well wishes and for the question. Your installation is addressed generally in Section 110.8 of the NEC which indicates that only wiring methods recognized as suitable are included in the NEC. Irrigation (PVC) piping is not included as a suitable wiring method. Hope this is useful.
