Question:
Good morning. The easiest thing in the world is to make a light or receptacle work. Making it work and be safe is why we need forums like this one.
I've always heard that it is wrong to cross fused and unfused conductors inside a cabinet, trough, disconnect switch or transfer switch. Is this just standard industry practice or is it a code requirement?
Thanks, John Kahler

Answer:
Hey John thanks for your question and the kind words. An easier thing might be to watch someone else do it. Some refer to service conductors as being unfused, probably because the overcurrent protective device is typically on the primary side of the utility transformer. Other conductors are not allowed in the same cable or raceway as stated in 230.7.
