Question:

Can you place an end box in the ceiling above the sheet rock and know the placement?

Answer:

Hey Mary thanks for your question. If I placed the box then it seems I would know where I did it! Sorry, that is probably not what you are asking but I couldn't resist. Sometimes it is noticed by a wall surface being bowed out because the drywall installer missed cutting out a box and if it was on the end of a run it might not affect any other equipment. Boxes must be installed so the contained wiring is accessible without removing any part of a building or structure. Accessible is also defined in Article 100.
