Question:
Hello CQD.
Is all electrical equipment required to be listed? Is listed equipment required to meet the installation requirements in the NEC?
Thanks for your time.
Barry Ratcliff
A
Answer:
H Barry,
No, and generally not all electrical equipment is required to be listed. Equipment and installations are required to be approved as indicated in 110.2. Listed equipment serves as a basis for approvals by the AHJ. If there are specific Code rules that require a product to be listed, then it is a requirement of the NEC. For example, Section 344.6 requires rigid metal conduits, factory elbows, couplings, and associated fittings to be listed. As for your second question, the answer is yes and supported by the requirements in Section 90.7 and 110.3(C) which clearly indicate that listed products are required to comply with the requirements of the NEC.
