Question:
Is the dishwasher in a residential home required to be on its own circuit?
Cory Beard
A
Answer:
Hey Cory thanks for your question. Maybe. The NEC does not specifically state that dishwashers be supplied from individual branch circuits as that term is defined in Article 100. The manufacturers instructions might require an individual branch circuit and then it is required as stated in 110.3(B). Additionally, if the dishwasher is fastened in place, and if lighting units or other cord and plug connected appliances are also supplied the dishwasher rating cannot exceed 50% of the branch circuit ampere rating.
