Question:
If a customer wants to add load to his service, may he do it based on the power company's history of his load?
A
Answer:
You betcha, section 220-35 permits the practice when all the conditions are met. The power company has to have the actual demand figures for a one year period, a lot of smaller services have only energy usage and don't have a demand and reactive meter. Take the existing demand at 125% and add the new load to it, the combined load can not exceed the service size.
Other provisions have been added to this section during the 1996 code cycle, I have only answered the question as asked. This section also includes testing and feeders.
