How do you determine which is the grounded wire, when wiring a light fixture?

Answer:
We used to call the grounded conductor the identified conductor. Section 200-6(a) indicates white or natural gray, Exception No. 2 refers you to Article 402. Section 402-8 indicates stripes may be used and refers you to Sections 400-22(a) through (e). Section 400-22 (a) Colored Braid, (b) Tracer in Braid, (c) Colored Insulation, (d) Colored Separator, or (e) Tinned Conductors. Other means may be used if your fixture is NOT listed by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.
