Question:
What is required for equipment approved for dry locations only, during building construction?
A Throw some plastic over it to protect it from the weather.
B Equipment is required by the code to be in a NEMA 3-R enclosure (weatherproof).
C You must hold up on the installation of the equipment until the building is enclosed and can keep the equipment dry.
D The code does not cover this subject, you must use your own discretion.
A
Answer:
A ... well maybe ... section 110-11 states in part 'Equipment approved for use in dry locations only shall be protected against permanent damage from the weather during building construction.' Therefore A is sort of the answer. The real question is whether or not the plastic will protect it, if you have to do a little more, or if you have to move down to C as the answer to this one. The bottom line is the equipment 'shall be protected against permanent damage.'
