Code Question Of The Day

Friday, July 01, 2011
Question:

Subject: Article 600 Electric Signs and Outline Lighting

Is it the intent of section Article 600 and also 600.3 to require a box sign with a listed luminaire enclosed to be listed by a third party as an assembly or as the scope indicates does the article only cover the listing of conductors and equipment for electric signs.

Thank you,
Richard Hall
Building Official

Answer:

Hey Richard, NEC 600.3 Listing requires electric signs, section signs, and outline signs, fixed, mobile, or portable to be listed. I believe this means listing as an assembled unit.

Section: 600.3
