Question:
Good Morning,
I have installed a handhole enclosure in a ball field lighting design. My question is about the metal handhole cover. Does it need to be grounded? Any help would be very appreciated.

Answer:
Hi Carl,
Thanks for the question. It appears that your handhole enclosure is for a feeder or branch circuit associated with the ball field. We will answer this to cover installations of either service conductors, or feeder or branch circuit conductors. Section 314.30(D) indicates metal covers and other exposed conductive surfaces shall be bonded in accordance with 250.92 if the conductors in the handhole are service conductors, or in accordance with 250.96(A) if the conductors in the handhole are feeder or branch-circuit conductors.
Hope this is helpful.
