Question:
Hello CQD, Can a bathroom 20 amp GFCI receptacle, be conneted to one of the 20amp kitchen countertop receptacles circuits in a dwelling unit?
Thanks, Edward Lohutko
A
Answer:
Edward,
Thanks for the question. Section 210.11(C)(1) and Section 210.52(B) provides the circuiting and receptacle outlet requirements for kitchen countertops. Specifically, Section 210.52(B)(2) addresses this topic, and prohibits the two or more small appliance branch circuits specified in Section 210.52(B)(1) from supplying power to any other outlets. There are two expections, but they do not apply to bathroom receptacles. You would not be permitted to connect the bathroom receptacle to the kitchen countertop circuit(s) as you described in your question.
