Question:
Greetings,
Thanks for this informative & educational as well as time entertaining column. My question isn't necessarily code, but maybe it is? 4"square blank covers are marked "bottom" or "underside." As far as I can tell, there is no difference in the two sides other than that marking & the UL marking on one side. I'm not sure if the UL is always on the same side or not. Can you give a reason for the marking? The manufacture has to expend some small cost to make the mark, so I have to believe it is a requirement by the authority.
Thanks again,
John Dennis

Answer:
Hello John,
The electrical testing labs typically provide the certification mark on products, unless the products are too small or for environmental concerns, the certification mark can be on the smallest carton the product is contained in. More information about product certification marks can be found at Product iQ by this link: https://productiq.ulprospector.com/en
