Hello Code Question Personnel,

Reply/Response to code question On 08-24-2020, IE; GFCI Breakers and Devices, Keep In mind That GFCI Breakers And Devices, DO SELF TEST, When not in use, Keep This in mind When Servicing GFCI Breakers and Devices. The Instructions ( Usually) on the Packaging indicates as So. Also, Keep in mind the older Generation GFCIs State To "test them monthly," keep this in mind when servicing GFCI Devices.

Answer:

Hello Matthew,

Great comment about the required monthly testing of GFCI devices. Many are not aware of this requirement exists and are included in the instructions for the installation and use of GFCI.  In section 110.3(B) of the NEC requires compliance with any instructions provided by electrical equipment manufacturers. The words "TEST MONTHLY" are often included on the face of the GFCI device.
