Question:
Hello,
Our question is about protection for service from physical damage. We have a parking lot with a building and the service equipment is very close to the vehicle parking area. Is there a requirement in the electrical code to provide protection from damage? I've been researching but cannot locate a rule. Is this a local electrical rule of utility company rule?
Any help would be welcome.

Answer:
Ryan,
Thanks for sending this in. Yes it is always important to guard equipment from physical damage where necessary. Based on the information in the question, this seems to be the case. Check out section 110.27(B). In this specific situation, bollards are often placed in front of the equipment to help prevent vehicles from damaging equipment that might be exposed to such damage.
