Question:

Hello Friends,

Where is the SO cable/cord discussed in the code? We have this cable run through ceilings in all of our production areas. It is not run through conduit but is a rated SO cable that has Kellum grips. Is this considered a non-metallic sheathed cable? We would like to ensure that we are NEC compliant.

Hi Albert,

Thanks for the Question. Flexible cords and cables are covered in Article 400 of the NEC. Section 400.12 prohibits cords (including SO Type cord) from being run above suspended ceilings. Section 400.10 provides the permitted installations for cords and cables.
