Question:
Hello,
Re: Question and Response on September 8, 2020.
Thanks for your continued service to the electrical industry. I start each day by reviewing your information. Regarding the question of running 12/3 UF to an air conditioner, why would 12/3 be needed for a “230” volt circuit?
Thanks,
Don Haskin

Answer:
Hi Don,
Great to hear from you. In response to your comment, if the load served is a straight 230-volt, single-phase load, then a 12-3 NM cable with a neutral conductor would not be required. A 12-2 NM cable would be sufficient. Good observation.
