Question:
Hello Code Warriors,
What are the specific codes or standards related to having someone office in an electrical room? I am guessing there are access and clearance issues but I cannot find prohibited language in the 2014 code. This is being applied in a manufacturing plant.
Thanks,
Jason Wolf

Answer:
Hi Jason,
The NEC does not designate an electric room that is only for electrical equipment. This is typically a design issue and may be addressed in another Code, perhaps the building Code. There are rules that would apply to the equipment in such rooms containing electrical equipment, such as minimum working space and access and egress requirements to the working space. Some local administrative rules do not permit a room for electrical equipment to be used for office or storage purposes.
