Question:
Good Morning Code Friends,
My question is about the NEC scope/purpose. Does the NEC cover lightning protection system installations?
Thanks,
Marty Simms
A
Answer:
Hello Marty,
Section 90.2(A) indicates what is covered by the NEC and installing lightning protection systems is not included there. Also in Section 90.1(A), the text indicates (in part) that the purpose of this Code is the practical safeguarding of persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity. Lightning is certainly not usable electricity. NFPA 780 is the Standard for Installing Lightning Protection Systems. That's where the specific installation rules are located.
Hope this is useful.
