Hello Electrical Friends,
How deep in the ground does a metal underground water pipe electrode have to be? A friend says a minimum of 30 inches.

Hi Kenneth,
The NEC does not specify a minimum depth requirement for a metal underground water pipe. This type of grounding electrode does have to be a minimum of 10 feet in direct contact with the earth. See Section 250.52(A)(1).
