Question:
Hello,
If a light pole has a ground rod and #6. Does that need to be connect to you EGC with your branch circuit? Or can you connect #6 to pole lug and splice fixture to EGC?
Scott Balsiger
A
Answer:
Hi Scott,
The auxiliary grounding electrode conductor and equipment grounding conductor should be connected together, typically by connection to the metal pole. Auxiliary grounding electrodes are covered in NEC 250.54 and this section indicates that the earth is not permitted as an effective ground-fault current path. In addition, section 410.30(B) has requirements to connect equipment grounding conductors to metal poles. Thanks for participating.
