Question:
Hello CQD,
I enjoy reading the Code Question of the Day every morning. At a recent NEC class on the 2020 changes, the instructor indicated that six moves of the hand in a single panelboard enclosure was no longer acceptable by Code. Is this correct?
Alex Pfiefer
A
Answer:
Hi Alex,
This information is accurate. Two-six disconnects in a single panelboard that is service rated, are no longer acceptable by the NEC. Panelboards used as service equipment are now required to be provided with a single main breaker and must have appropriate barriers. The barriers are typically a standard or accessory feature from the manufacturer. Check out the changes in Sections 230.71(B) and 230.62(C). Note that the two-to-six service disconnect rule still applies to certain installations and equipment, just not when all the service disconnects are in the same enclosure.
