Charlie, Great work with the code question of the day.

Can you let me know if we are allowed to use clear tap connectors to wire 480 volt motors 5 HP and above?

Answer:

Hey Angelo thanks for your question and the compliment. Article 430 does not have details on specific types of methods or products to be used for motor terminations. Section 110.14 has general requirements for electrical connections. Several manufactures make "clear tap connectors" and they are not prohibited from being used for motor terminations but might be too large to fit in motor terminal housings.  Some manufactures have products that are specifically designed for motor terminations which can help facilitate future motor repair and replacements, Check with the manufacturer to determine if the connector you are considering is intended or suitable for motor terminations and as always follow the instructions provided including any torqueing values.
