Question:
Hi Code Question of the Day. Can you explain the difference between securing and supporting as it pertains to electrical code requirements? Regard, Frank Drebin
A
Answer:
Hi Frank, thanks for participating in the CQD. The NEC® does not define the terms “Securing” and “Supporting” however, the NFPA Manual of Style of NFPA Technical Committee Documents states that when a NFPA Standard does not have a definition of a term, the Merriam Webster Dictionary definition can be used. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines these terms as follows:
Securing - fix or attaching something firmly so that it cannot be moved or lost.
Supporting –
bearing all or part of the weight of something.
