Question:
Hello Code friends, we have a project where the electrical specifications call for all underground PVC conduit (encased in concrete) to be painted with asphalt compound. Is this a requirement of the
NEC® code? I believe painting with asphalt compound applies to metallic conduit installed underground. Thanks in advance, Renato Abarquez
A
Answer:
Hello Renato, thank you for your participation in the CQD. In general, there is no
NEC® requirement for PVC conduit to have additional coating for corrosion protection. Section 352.10(B) specifically permits PVC conduit to be installed in locations subject to severe corrosive influences. See Section 300.6 for additional guidance on corrosive conditions and influences.
