Question:
Hello Code Friends, first off thank you for this forum. My question is regarding LED recessed light fixtures. Often these are installed after the sheetrock is installed and rely on the sheetrock for support and the junction box is laying in the joist space unsupported as well. Are these light fixtures permitted for new construction installations? Is the sheetrock adequate for support of these lights? Thanks, Tim
A
Answer:
Hello Tim, thanks for participating. The luminaire listing information, which includes the manufacturer’s installations instructions, would dictate as to whether this installation would be permitted. Section 110.3(C) would support this referring to the listing of the product, and installation instructions as an approval method of the installation.
