Question:
We installed a new ATS with, as usual, a set of normal power wires and a set of emergency power wires coming in, and a set of load wires going out. There is a big junction/pull box about 8 feet away from the ATS with all the sets of wires running straight through. Do we need to put dividers in this box? I say no because all the wires come together in 8 feet anyway.

Answer:
Hey David thanks for your question.
Emergency source wiring must be separated from other wiring as stated in 700.10(B). The provisions of 700.10(B)(1) through (5) allow emergency source wiring to be in the same enclosure with other wiring under certain conditions. Junction boxes are an example of this but only if they are attached to the equipment. The words used are "entirely independent" so it is up to the local AHJ to determine if they want separate pull boxes or will accept a divider at this point.
