Question:
Hi, we have SO cord being used for electrical drops to run rows of work stations. My question, is there a maximum length that the cord can swag over from the J-box? I am unable to find it in the code book.
Thanks for your help

Answer:
Hey Derick thanks for your question. Flexible cords must be used based on 400.7 and 400.8. Section 400.8(1) prohibits them from being used to replace the fixed wiring of a structure so there needs to be justification for their use based on the conditions in 400.7. Also 400.8(4) prohibit flexible cords from being attached to building surfaces. The exception is limited to busways so unless that is what you are using there is no horizontal distance the flexible cord can "swag over".
