Question:
I think I heard it is a code violation to place an electrical circuit breaker panel inside a cabinet. Correct? Thanks for your help.

Answer:
Hey Kate thanks for your question. I'm guessing you have a different definition or thought of what a cabinet is than what is in the NEC. What you describe as a "circuit breaker panel" is probably a panelboard as defined in Article 100. A panelboard is an assembly that includes busses and overcurrent devices and is designed to be installed in a cabinet. The term "cabinet" is also defined in Article 100 as an enclosure, with or without doors, and is typically metal. Placing a panelboard with its enclosing cabinet in an additional enclosure could be a violation if other NEC rules are not followed such as the access and working space provisions in 110.26 or rules in
Article 408 are not complied with.
