Let’s Continue this discussion …many panel boards do not have the ability to receive the new arc fault breakers, are we also saying to, that a home owner Must change the main CB panel board so arc fault breakers may be installed or install a small side by side sub panel to fit them in? Intent……

Hey Bill thanks for your follow-up question. No, the panelboard does not need to be replaced or a new one installed, especially by most homeowners, because receptacle type AFCI devices are allowed to be used for replacements as stated in 406.4(D)(4). Be sure to read all of 406.4(D) for other applicable requirements and see the following information provided by another Bill.
Please note Dual Function AFCI/GFCI receptacles are available that address the requirements for both AFCI protection for replacement receptacles as well as GFCI protection when replacing non-grounding type outlets.
