Question:
Re: CQD answer published Wednesday, September 21, 2016 -Dishwasher/Disposal GFCI
Your response should state (for the non-electrician that you now answer so many of their questions) per 2014 NEC only on new or remodel construction. Existing installs still meet code if they met the code in effect at the time of installation. Generally date of permit not work start. Many of these folks will take your out of context statements as gospel and cause multiple unnecessary issues with their landlord or prospective seller of real estate.
Cordially,

Answer:
Hey Bill thanks for your comment it is a good point. The NEC applies to new electrical installations and modifications - not to existing installations. Our answers are generally based on the 2014 NEC unless otherwise stated but it is the NEC edition that is adopted by the municipality that applies. You might be surprised at how many of the questions that appear to be from non-electricians actually are from contractors and electricians.
