Question:
Your customer is building a house with a mud-room/bathroom (next to the back door) and says he does NOT want a receptacle installed; may you leave it out?
A
Answer:
Now why would a customer NOT want a receptacle in a bathroom? Section 210-52(d) requires one so WHAT DO YOU DO? If you install it anyway, would you get more work in the future? If you don't, would the inspector write it up? ... HMMM ... It is time to explain to the customer that the NEC requires one and it has to be protected with a GFCI. If you don't install one, someone will run an extension cord to the bathroom and you would end up with a tripping and/or a fire hazard (this is not even looking at a non-GFCI protected device.) I can't imagine why a customer would not want one.
