Question:
Hello Code Guru, does the NEC specify the direction of the door swing for electrical equipment rooms, or is this in the Building Code? Thanks, Dean Rendell
A
Answer:
Hi Dean, the requirements for electrical room egress doors can be found in the
NEC®, more specifically, Section 110.26(C)(3) provides use with guidance on how the doors for electrical equipment rooms operate. Where the equipment is rated 800 amperes or more, and contains overcurrent, switching, or control devices, and the door is less than 25ft from the nearest edge of the working space, the door(s) shall open in the direction of egress and be equipped with listed panic hardware or listed fire exit hardware.
